You may not know this, but GW is set to undergo an extreme makeover within the next five years.
At the beginning of this academic year, President LeBlanc introduced “GW’s Strategic Plan.” This is a plan of “preeminence,” designed to make GW the greatest school ever. According to LeBlanc, these four factors can help GW achieve that status.
- World-Class Faculty
- High-Quality Undergraduate Education
- Distinguished and Distinctive Graduate Education
- High-Impact Research
If you’ve heard anything about this plan, it’s probably the part about the 20% decrease in student population over the next five years.
Yeah, you heard it right. Future students will be subjected to a more limited acceptance rate, making GW even more exclusive than it was before.
Another key element to this plan is an 11% increase in the number of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors. In a school with a heavy focus on politics, LeBlanc believes this will be a crucial step toward creating a more inclusive curriculum.
He announced these policies in close proximity to a $10 million residence renovation and the abolition of GWU’s fixed tuition program, which could entail an increase in tuition each year for students entering GW after the plan is finalized.
Some students grapple with how certain demographics will be affected – specifically low
According to the GW Strategic Plan website, the Strategic Plan’s completion is set for June 2020. GW’s Board of Trustees has the final say on what the plan will entail.
Four committees formed in September consisting of GW faculty. The committees represent each of the four criteria that LeBlanc believes will help make GW better than it has ever been.
These committees are responsible for compiling feedback and drafting reports for the eventual Strategic Plan. If you want to share your feedback, you can submit a response on the plan’s website or attend a town hall meeting held by the committees.
