  • In Defense of Wired Earbuds

By Alexandra Savage Here’s the deal. I’m behind on the trends. I didn’t get Spotify Premium until last year and my iPhone still has a home button. If I had it my way, I would carry around a rotary phone in my backpack. Unfortunately, the world isn’t moving in that direction. For the most part,…

  • Expat Review: Potentially Great

By Jonathan Kay Foggy Bottom’s new hottest bar is Expat. This bar has everything. Water pong. Good music. Employees ordering pizza from Domino’s to eat behind the bar. Sports on the TVs. Cornhole. Red solo cups. No people. And a frat environment without the frat-holes.  Dear reader, have you ever wanted to enjoy the frat…

  • Farewell For Now: The Last Comedy-Magic Show

By Claire Leibowitz, EIC Comedians Will Roberts and Margaret Korinek captivated two 60-person audiences at their Farewell For Now Third Floor Variety Show at Tonic on Saturday, and Magician Max Davidson impressed attendees by remembering everyone’s name, solving a Rubik’s cube blindfolded, and guessing the distance and running routes of random Strava users in the…

  • These Are the Most Toxic College Majors (According to GW Students)

By Megan Krueger Most of us have a list of red flags that we look out for in other people. If we’re being honest, we all have our own personal red flags that we like to warn others about, too. But have you ever wondered if your college major is one of them? Well, I…

  • Hidden Metro Gems

By Alexandra Savage I don’t often realize how lucky we are to have the metro system until I visit my hometown in New Jersey, which requires me to drive everywhere. As someone who barely passed my driver’s test because I can’t parallel park, hearing the words “we’re meeting downtown” is enough to send chills down…

  • March Seasonal Produce

By Claire Leibowitz, EIC All produce can be eaten year-round, but is it really good year-round? Tomatoes in March are mushy and dull. Strawberries are hard and bitter after August. It’s impossible to find a peach in a grocery store in the winter. At the end of the day, the practice of produce consumption is…

  • Spring 2024 Fashion Trends

By Nina Rodriguez Just like Mr. Groundhog said, spring is officially on its way! Cherry blossoms are blooming and pollen allergy medications are becoming seemingly difficult to acquire. The warm weather, increase of sunlight, and the budding of new flowers mean your closet needs to be prepared! Spring is typically a season of new beginnings…

ABOUT US

The GW Local

A GW Local is any member of the GW community who has a passion for storytelling, educating, and integrating campus life with individual experiences.

Up until now, our university has lacked a student life blog, which has forced us to find other avenues for self-expression. Now, we have the opportunity to showcase our passions, our humor, and our individuality in a holistic space.

Because we value transparency and honesty, we do not have a personal agenda; we understand the privilege GW students possess to attend a top university in a renowned city. We hope to provide articles that are easy to read and casual, yet are informative and maintain journalistic integrity and accuracy. We recognize that in a 24-hour news cycle, we don’t have much time to read articles, and we want engaging in campus news to be fun.

Our team is comprised of dedicated, passionate students with varying backgrounds and reasons for joining this organization. Despite our differences, our mission unites us. We hope that students who have ever felt silenced by their community will use this blog as a personal platform.
