What Goes Unnoticed On Netflix?

Let’s be honest, Hulu and Apple TV both pale in comparison to Netflix. Producing and featuring binge-worthy shows and hilarious or heartbreaking movies is Netflix’s staple. Winter is approaching us and if it weren’t for the pandemic forcing us inside, the freezing temperatures would already do that. For this reason, grab your family members, roommates, friends, boyfriends, or girlfriends and glue yourselves to the couch so you can watch all my new favorites Netflix has to offer!

Trailer Park Boys

Think about the concept of The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Borat combined. Then, picture all that but set in Canada, at a trailer park, with five leading men, Ricky, Julian, Bubbles, Randy, and Lahey. When I tell you that the simplistic, yet unique and specific details of each character’s personality will have you peeing in your pants from laughter, it will. Trailer Park Boys will take you through the daily money-making shenanigans that Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles get themselves into, while Lahey messes everything up for them. Randy, well he’s Randy, always just following Lahey around like his little sidekick with his shirt off and belly out. Every episode is a different hilarious problem, but you can always count on Julian to have a full drink in his hand every second of it. Please watch this and give it more than just the intro, but also trust me when I say even the opening credits is a masterpiece. 10/10 recommend!

My Octopus Teacher

Beautiful and heartbreaking, this documentary will leave you in awe. It’s the story of a man’s relationship with a magnificent octopus deep in South Africa. The shots of the South Atlantic ocean and land surrounding is breathtaking to watch. The love that this man has for his friend shines through as he carefully watches her in the freezing cold water over the course of the octopus’ life. He watches her strength in battling the predators that exist in her world and the sacrifices she makes to accomplish a fulfilling life. This documentary portrays the octopus as fragile tempered with insane capabilities that make them superior. The end will leave you speechless, but with a newfound love for this immaculate creature!

The Social Dilemma

Has anyone ever thought about how we, as eager to be entertained human beings, are being controlled by large corporations? Specifically in the time we are living in now, social media dominates any other form of communication and source which provides news or updates, we feed into the power these companies have. Take Facebook for example. Mark Zuckerburg, the founder, has a net worth of billions of dollars and how do you think he got there? Because of us. Once this social media platform hit the Internet, the addiction and dependence to it skyrocketed through its users. What a lot of people overlook or fail to think about is that this constant usage of the app or website makes the company a ton of money. Money brings power, but is the fear of too much of either to any one company enough to make us stop signing in and spending hours of the day on their creation? This documentary looks into what The Social Dilemma is in today’s day and age on the basis of these questions. It’s thought provoking and eye opening to such an apparent relationship that we never really think about. Watch it and it’ll leave you with your head spinning in the best way!
