A Foodie’s GWorld Faves

Whether its pizza, burgers, or Mediterranean food, every student has their favorite GWorld spot. Last year, I went to Cafe Aria for their reasonably priced bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel almost daily. But where else do you go when you’ve eaten at the same place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the past month? What about when you have dietary restrictions and want new restaurants that accommodate them? If you find yourself in one of these dilemmas, here are some suggestions for GWorld spots that never disappoint.

Bodega

Washington, D.C. 20007

I really enjoyed the ambiance of this restaurant; the low lighting and hip décor make for a unique dining experience. The farther back you are seated, the more intimate it feels. they always bring a bread basket to your table with unlimited refills (who doesn’t love that). The menu has a wide variety of options for everyone and is best enjoyed shared with 2+ people so you are able to try a multitude of dishes!

Favorite Items:

  • Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp)
  • Arroz Meloso de Setas y Queso Idiazabal (Creamy Mushroom Rice with Cheese)

Froggy Bottom Pub

2021 K Street NW

This is one of my favorite places, hands down. I really love the atmosphere of this restaurant because it’s super casual, yet it has a waitstaff so you can sit down and enjoy your meal. This spot is super fun to go with friends as well. Everyone who works there is super happy and I haven’t had anything here that I didn’t enjoy.

Favorite Items:

  • Pho Ga (Chicken Pho)
  • Froggy Nachos

Flavors of India

2524 L Street NW

This place is very under the radar. The staff is super friendly and the food comes out in such a timely manner. The menu is very accommodating with vegan and vegetarian specialty sections.  I came here with two of my vegetarian friends and we shared everything. We left with plans to come back to try the lunch buffet.

Favorite Items:

  • Garlic Naan 
  • Saag Paneer (Cheese and Spinach dish)
  • Chicken Tikka Masala

Devon & Blakely 

2200 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Devon & Blakely is great for a variety of reasons: the food is high-quality, reasonably-priced, and well-portioned. When the weather is nice, I take my food to-go and eat in Washington Circle, giving a nice change of scenery to a busy class day. Additionally, they have some exceptional baked goods, including delicious fudgy brownies (which are never a bad idea).

Favorite Items:

  • Turkey Chilli
  • Create Your Own Salad

Duke’s Grocery

2000 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

This new addition to GWorld and 2000 Penn does not disappoint. While I am a waitress here and may be biased, I have been able to try a lot of the items on this menu. Duke’s has some great food and the menu is always changing. They have options that meet an array of dietary needs and everything tastes delicious.

  • Avocado Toast
  • Curry of the Day
