GW Local Editors Spotlight

Editors for Fall 2022

Grace Eberts, Editor in Chief

Grace is a Junior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina majoring in Philosophy (focused in Public Affairs) with a double minor in Communications and Dance. Grace’s favorite thing about The Local is that it gives her an outlet to write with her own voice and develop her skills as a blogger, while also helping her think creatively about day-to-day experiences. She loves to write lifestyle articles about beauty and fashion, as well as student organization spotlights to feature different communities on campus. Grace joined The Local her freshman year aftering finding the blog on GW Engage and wanting to connect with other students through writing. Since joining, she has been grateful to be surrounded by such a strong team of writers and editors who encourage her to push her limits with new article ideas.

Caroling Dehn, Assistant EIC

Caroline Dehn is a fourth-year student from Rochester, New York studying Creative Writing with a minor in Criminal Justice. She joined the GW Local her sophomore year because of her love for writing in all its forms. Her favorite part about the GW Local is the creative freedom given to writers as well as the mission to represent the interests of GW students. Caroline likes to write lifestyle articles, as well as student organization spotlights that expose her to all the unique opportunities on campus. She is a member of the founding class of the GW Local and is so thrilled to be writing and editing with this talented team for another year.

Claire Leibowitz, Lifestyle EIC

Claire is a junior studying Journalism and Mass Communication with a double minor in Spanish and Psychology. She’s originally from Westchester, New York, but now lives in New York City. Claire joined The Local because it reminded her of the lifestyle articles she likes to read. She appreciates how The Local takes everyone for how they are and allows them to further explore their different interests. Claire, herself, loves to write and learn more about self-care, music, books and GW news. Her favorite part of The Local is the amazing team of editors and writers she gets to work with. Everyone shares the same love and interest of putting out engaging content for the GW student body in a non-stressful way. She also loves the unique set-up of The Local and how everyone can keep their voice and style when contributing pieces. Claire is ecstatic to be the Lifestyle Editor-in-Chief and to continue to contribute and read The Local this year.

Kendal Furman, Academic EIC

Kendal Furman is a Sophomore from San Diego, California majoring in International Affairs with a concentration in Global Public Health and a minor in Human Services and Social Justice. She joined The Local in the Fall of her Freshman year because she was looking for an extracurricular activity that would allow her the freedom to explore her interests and voice while strengthening her writing skills. Her favorite part about The Local is the weekly meetings where she gets to hear about all of the interesting articles that people are going to write for the following week. She loves writing lifestyle pieces, however, recently she has been exploring more opinion articles as well. The GW Local has helped Kendal reconnect with her love for writing and has kept her involved in the GW community, all of which has made her feel extremely thankful to be a part of such a wonderful organization.

Alexandra Savage, Social Media and Web Design

Alexandra Savage is a Junior from Ridgewood, New Jersey majoring in psychology and Spanish. She joined the Local her sophomore year because she wanted to write articles in a more casual setting while having the opportunity to collaborate with other writers and editors. Her favorite part about the Local is the wide variety of article topics covered in each issue. She appreciates how each writer has the creative freedom to cover the ideas that excite them. Alexandra particularly enjoys writing about DIY projects and past events, but she hopes to cover more local happenings in DC this semester. She is excited to maintain the social media and website for the Local and can’t wait to keep writing this year.
