Lucky for us, Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday and we have a long weekend…what better time to celebrate the strong, inspiring, badass women in your life than with a day trip or a gift giving celebration with brunch (per Parks and Rec)? D.C. has a ton of great places to help you enjoy quality time with your gal pals over the long weekend. Here are some fun ideas to make your Galentine’s Day weekend one to remember.

I’m constantly amazed by how far 2-3 dollars can get you on the Metro and this is a testimony to my statement. Alexandria is the perfect place for a day out with your friends during the long weekend. With tons of insta-worthy backgrounds on the cobblestone streets and the view of DC from the waterfront, there’s something here for every friend group. Have a baking night!

Throw a Galentine’s Day party!
Put together a playlist of your favorite feminist anthems, get some decorations for a cute background, and get dressed up! It’s a little too easy to slip into a Valentine’s Day slump if you’re single and constantly surrounded by reminders of love. A party is a great way to distract yourself and focus on the friendships you love. Plus, you’ll get some great Instagram content.

If you’re willing to pay, the National Museum of Women in the Arts isn’t too far from campus and has tons of amazing art old and new, all created by women. Of course, the Smithsonians are always free and there’s no shortage of art there either. However you choose to tailor your trip, art museums are always a great way to decompress and enjoy time together with your friends.
Stay in and watch Netflix!
This might be a given, but if you’re feeling a night in… Netflix has a ton of great rom-coms for you and your friends to watch. Grab some Ben and Jerry’s and face masks from CVS and you’re good to go. Some of my personal favorites are Someone Great, About Time, Love Rosie, and the Notebook. Plus- the second movie in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series comes out on February 12.
