It’s that time of year! Pumpkin spice is everywhere and the leaves are changing. As the cool breeze starts rolling in, here are some Fall fashion trends that will keep you looking, and feeling, hot.
The looks of this Fall season are bringing an elevated style to timeless classics, introducing versatile pieces for any occasion. Additionally, nostalgia is creeping in through a resurgence of ‘90s styles, referencing the mature yet business-casual look that has quickly become the new normal.
The popularity of denim presents itself in every season, however, denim maxi-skirts are the perfect transition piece for the cold weather. Once popular in the 1970s, the denim maxi skirt has been revamped with a slit to showcase modernity and mystery. The versatility of this piece allows it to be styled for any season, adapting to the constantly changing climate. A sweater and knee-high boots can showcase a cozy look for the cold, or sneakers and a relaxed t-shirt can be paired for a warmer day. The denim maxi skirt brings an ideal balance for transitional weather and can be dressed-up or down for any occasion.
This season’s footwear embodies class and timelessness. Slingback heels have been a new take on the classic kitten heel and serve as an easy way to dress up any outfit. They are mainly seen in black or red leather. Whether worn with casual jeans, professional pantsuits, or fun dresses, slingback heels are a sleek way to look put together. Another way to work vintage, but trendy, footwear into your wardrobe is through ballet flats. As a former ballerina, I am particularly excited about this trend! Originating from French fashion, ballet flats are a casual way to instantly make any outfit chic. As a flat, this shoe is a comfortable detail of elegance. Also, these flats are perfect for any sunny fall day! Lastly, the classic leather knee-high boot is making a comeback this fall. These boots are a personal staple in my closet. Worn under wide-leg jeans,with a mini skirt, or alongside a dress, they add a level of classic edge to your look while also keeping you warm.
Just like the sharp breeze, the ‘90s are back! A revival of ‘90s looks has taken over this fall. Cardigans are the perfect layering piece to combat the chilly weather. Cropped cardigans are no exception. Just like 25 years ago, cropped cardigans are being worn over a silk dress or with a baby tee and boyfriend jeans. Similarly, boyfriend jeans have been in style for a few years now and don’t seem to be going anywhere. Their versatility of casual comfort or dignified flare allows them to span across many seasons beyond fall. The high-waisted aspect of boyfriend jeans keeps crop tops in style for a few months longer. On the eccentric side, animal print is the perfect way to add a statement to any classic fall outfit. Inspired by Mel B of the “Spice Girls,” a pop of animal print through shoes, purses, or scarves can ‘spice’ up any look.
Basics have been the perfect foundation for a timeless style. Basics can be underestimated but are eye-catching and useful for any season. This year, many basics have been elevated with a business casual flare. A high-neck cardigan paired with straight-leg denim jeans and finished off with a classic boot is an undeniable head-turner. Layering a versatile t-shirt and cozy sweater is another reliable option. Additionally, a unique way of enhancing basics is through color. Bright red has been the go-to statement color of this fall and never misses! Personally, my red leather tote always adds a fun flare to any monochromatic outfit. Similarly, patterns, such as stripes and polka dots, serve as an eccentric addition to any wardrobe and can help personalize basics. As for outerwear, leather jackets and trench coats continue to be an unchanging staple every year.
Fall 2023 has many incredible fashion trends that pair perfectly with a pumpkin spice latte. Given that many of these looks will likely remain in style for years to come, I’d say it’s time to get your shopping on!
