BookTok Taking Over Your FYP: The Most Popular Books of the Season

In the age of digital media, TikTok has taken over subjects of academics, comedy, and even acting. Reaching a billion users every month, TikTok has reached a new audience of young readers and has taken on their own hashtag “#BookTok.” Users all over the world are adding their favorite books covering a wide variety of genres and audiences, and giving avid readers vast ideas for their TBR (To be Read) lists. 

With the ever-expanding hashtag (#BookTok), here is your roadmap for the top #BookTok books you’re going to be seeing on your FYP for the upcoming months!

The Love Hypothesis

The New York Times Best Seller The Love Hypothesis, by Ali Hazelwood has taken over the #BookTok platform with its release in September and has entered the bookshelf of every romantic fiction fan. Between the fake-dating trope and unassuming location to find love, Hazelwood depicts the unlikely relationship between a graduate student and a professor, taking readers through the world of science and romance. BookTok fans have been running to find Hazelwood’s narration on love in the seemingly hopeless place of a science lab.

My Body 

Yet another New York Times Best Seller, My Body by model and actress Emily Ratajkowski describes her experience in the limelight and the inner workings of fame and recognition. Ratajkowski discusses the meaning of feminism, her relationship with her own body, and the exploitation of women within the modeling industry. Touching on extremely important issues, My Body is a snippet into the dark world of being an influencer and model. Be sure to check for trigger warnings as Ratajkowski discusses difficult and troubling subjects. 

Atomic Habits 

Atomic Habits by James Clear, is another long-standing New York Times Best Seller covering the importance and techniques of making habits that withstand the test of time. As 2022 approaches, readers will be flooding bookstores to find Atomic Habits and to support their New Year’s resolutions. Forming long-lasting routines is always difficult, however, Clear eases the stress of changing routines by stressing the importance of developing “micro-habits,” which translates over into creating long-lasting behavioral changes. 

Daisy Jones and The Six

Yet another New York Times bestseller, Taylor Jenkins Reid illustrates the chaotic and creative lifestyles of a band during the 1970s. Reid allows readers to peek behind the curtains of the inner workings of the band Daisy Jones and The Six in an interview-style format, making a unique and fun read. Reid depicts the fight for power and recognition between band members, Daisy and Billy, and crafts the turbulent friendship between the two characters. If you love the movie Almost Famous, this book is right up your alley, with interesting characters and amazing music!

The Hating Game

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne takes readers through the tumultuous relationship between two co-workers. Throne takes a deep dive into the workplace environment that leaves readers wondering how the main characters Lucy and Josh will handle resentment for one another. If you’re a fan of romantic comedies, Lucy and Josh’s intense and unlikely relationship is the right fit for you! The film adaptation of The Hating Game is about to hit theaters everywhere so make sure you snag your copy before you hear too many spoilers!
